Can you use Sniper for controlling ticks on your dog?

Many dog owners make the mistake of trying to control ticks on their dogs with Sniper; this is not only dangerous to the dog but can lead to immediate death of the dog. In this post, we are going to explain why you should not think about using organophosphates such as sniper or other chemicals for tick control or eradication on your dog.

First of all, we have to answer the question: Is Sniper an effective chemical for eradicating ticks from an environment? Absolutely! However, they should be kept very far from dogs and other animals. This is because after using sniper on the dog, the ticks become restless on the dog, causing the dog discomfort. Due to this discomfort, the dog scratches and bites itself while trying to get comfortable. This means that the dog will inadvertently ingest the Sniper leading to organophosphate poisoning which is very detrimental to the life of the dog.

Apart from ingesting the chemical and suffering organophosphate poisoning, the sniper can be absorbed through the skin into the body system, leading to poisoning. Symptoms of organophosphate poisoning include nausea, dullness, salivating, diarrhea (sometimes), etc.

What should you do if your dog is heavily infested with ticks?

The best decision is always to contact a veterinarian and let him or her decide what the best method to control ticks on your dog is. However, in the absence of a vet, you can use pour-on solutions. Some of them contain Amitraz, some contain Ivermectin, etc. The pour-on solution is safe for the dog, and is efficient at tick control.

Ivermectin Pour On

To prevent tick infestation, it is recommended to always keep your dog's house clean and fumigate it when needed. This will reduce the likelihood of infestation. But by all means, NEVER USE SNIPER!
